Developed in honor of the Gonzalez and Davolos families—the founders and stewards of the Gonzalez legacy—the GD reeds for Bb clarinet are designed for soloists who demand depth, richness, and superior tonal projection.
Crafted exclusively from our finest cane, each reed begins with a segment of 3.15 mm diameter material that has been naturally aged for a minimum of three years. Featuring a longer scraping area, more wood in the heel, and a carefully calibrated quarter-strength system, the GD reed offers heightened vibration, extended durability, and precision fit for the most discerning players.
The result is a reed that delivers a powerful, resonant sound with unmatched consistency—ideal for clarinetists in search of a bold, expressive voice and refined control across all registers.

These reeds are nice dense cane. However, they are best suited to experienced clarinet players as they require slow break-in and a willingness to work the reed with tools to come up with a good working reed.
I have been playing clarinet for 50+ years and I would suggest the following break in. Week 1: wet the reed each day (don't play it) and when dry, follow that with light sanding with 600 or 1200 grit paper. Week 2: play the reed each day for a few minutes but no longer. Week 3: start adjusting with a reed knife or reed tool; typically you will need to thin the sides of the reed and shape the profile to form a "bell-shaped" thickness profile to allow free vibration and clear tone.
Great reeds with excellent consistency. Note that the reeds generally play harder than their rating (2.25 is like a 2.75 or 3 reed).
Excellent reeds! I’m an intermediate recreational player. I tried the GD reeds for the first time a month ago - the sound is better than I have ever produced with other brands. Had to find the reed number that works for me. Definitely switching to Gonzalez reeds.
Nice, centered sound! I now wish I had ordered the 4.25…they blow a bit firmer than VD 4.5. Love the sound!
They are very nice. When you get a good one, it's fantastic and lasts a long time; however when you get a bad one, it's horrible. I wish there would be greater consistency.
