Gonzalez Reeds Jazz Local 627 reeds for tenor saxophone are a tribute to the legendary Kansas City Musicians Union “Local 627,” whose members—like a young Charlie Parker—forever changed the sound of jazz. These reeds are designed from the crop up as true jazz reeds, beginning with raw material cultivated on specially selected plantations for enhanced elasticity and natural vibrancy.
Featuring an elastic cut with a longer scraping area, Jazz Local 627 reeds offer a bright, immediate response and powerful projection—perfect for the dynamic demands of jazz performance. The reed’s structure promotes flexibility while retaining tonal clarity, making them ideal for improvisation and expressive play.
Crafted from single-origin cane and shaped with precision, these reeds deliver consistency, energy, and the freedom to shape your sound—just like the jazz greats who inspired them.

I’ve been using another brand for over 30 years. I decided to try Gonzalez reeds based on reviews. I threw one on for a show last night, right out of the box, and I was floored! They are very free blowing. I was able to push them when I needed to without losing tone. I’m sold!
I like the reeds. I need more time with them but I'm definitely gonna order more boxes of Tenor 4 .5 strength.
I was gifted a box of tenor reeds, sort of as a joke. I'd been a Legere synthetic guy for years and didn't expect that to change. One week with the Local 627s and my band heard such a dramatic change THEY insisted I switch. I heard the difference, too. Get a box and give them a shot - you might just find you're new favorite reed
Excellent reed. Yiu always get a few ready to play ones right out of the box. The Gonzalez Malbec reeds are similar but have a filed profile. I actually prefer them but they are no longer available in the strength I prefer so I would say the 627s are my second chois but also excellenc. I use them for jazz, blues, r&b and funk music.
The reeds are very consistent and responsive. I like them very much on Alto and Tenor saxophone.
